ARTIST ORCHESTRATION ON FABRIC
Designer Payal Khandwala approaches fashion through principles of art. The prism with which she approaches fashion is therefore distinctive, as she treats dressmaking as simply a shift in canvas. She orchestrates colour, textures and patterns to create layered separates that are dramatic yet minimal, with subtle attention to detail. Since the launch of her eponymous designer wear label in 2012, Payal Khandwala is known to employ rich hand‐woven fabric corroborated with clever cuts and separated layers of colour while utilising the ultimate crux between draping and tailoring. Payal received her BFA in Fine Arts and Design in 1999 from the Parsons School of Design and has been recognized as one of the best young achievers in Fine Arts based in the United States. Her works have been exhibited in Mumbai, Delhi, New York, London, Barcelona, Tokyo and Singapore and her works are currently on consignment in galleries in New York, Barcelona and Mumbai and in several private collections in the US, India, France, England, South Africa and Belgium.
