BODRUMANIA

Solo Exhibition by Ardan Özmenoğlu | Anna Laudel Bodrum

Ardan Özmenoglu is a versatile Turkish contemporary artist who works in a wide range of mediums including large-scale glass sculptures, works on Post-It notes and neon lighting. She is inspired by Bodrum’s nature including its blue sea, pink bougainvillea flowers, white houses, breathtaking sunsets, and nights illuminated by the moonlight. The artist thinks that these natural beauties of Bodrum cannot be fully understood without living there, and refers to the local features of the peninsula ranging from its untouched bays to the unique flavors served at its well-known restaurants.

Born in 1979 in Turkey, Ardan Özmenoğlu obtained her BFA as well as her MFA in the Department of Art, Design and Architecture from Bilkent University, Ankara. She was an Artist in Residence at Kala art Institute in Berkeley, Ateliergemeinschaft Milchhof e.V. Berlin, Frans Maserell Centrum in Belgium, Kulturkontakt Austria in Vienna and Glasstress in Murano, Venice.

Her recent work consists of site-specific screenprint installations, which incorporate architecture and sculpture, using materials such as glass, neon tubing, and post-it notes. At the interface between printmaking and sculpture, these three-dimensional portraits come into being. Her works can be found in important collections internationally, such as the Hort Collection NYC, Naked Heart Foundation, the Frankfurt Airport Collection, the Osthaus Museum Hagen Collection, the Kala Art Institute Collection, the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, the UniCredit Bank Art collection, the Fondation Jan Michalski Collection, the Imoga Mundi (Benetton) Collection and the Istanbul Modern Collection.

Ardan Özmenoğlu’s solo exhibition titled 'Bodrumania' would be held at Anna Laudel Bodrum, ZAİ Yaşam, between 5th August to 23rd September 2022. Özmenoğlu focuses on the three symbols of Bodrum at 'Bodrumania': the blue of the sea, the pink of the bougainvillea flowers, and the white of the Bodrum houses. Her works reflect the dazzling beauty of the village, which has been a great source of inspiration for many artists, authors and musicians such as the Fisherman of Halicarnassus and Zeki Müren.
