The art of travel holds the hands of life experience, complimenting functionality, lifestyle, design and personality. Holistic endeavors of creating grounded memories challenge comfortable boundaries. The travel-inspired aesthetics and principles of Jaguar Land Rover, celebrating 70 years this year, embodies the spiritualism of creativity and exploration. Soon after its launch in 1970, the Range Rover was the first car to be displayed at the Louvre as an ‘Exemplary work of Industrial Design’ whilst the new Range Rover Velar was on display at the Design Museum in the Helene and Johannes Huth gallery for its iconic design. In conversation with Tasneem Siddeeque Mabuthoon, Marketing & Customer Experience Manager and Sanjaya Jayasinghe, General Manager – Sales of SML Frontier Automotive, sole agents for Jaguar Land Rover in Sri Lanka and Main Partner for this edition of ARTRA Magazine, we explore the characteristics of functional works of art in tandem with the theme of this edition, Art & Travel.

As travel enhances personal character, the Jaguar Land Rover vehicles compliment artistic endeavors. As explored in our interview with wildlife photographer Rukshan Jayawardene on ARTRA Magazine E24, he states the manner in which his Land Rover Discovery paves way for camouflage creating the ideal platform disabling animals to detect the presence of human form consequently allowing the opportunity to capture candid photography. The innovators of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles are diverse. Chief designers are Scottish, Ian Callum is Director of Design for Jaguar, and Gerry McGowan, an English Design Director for Land Rover, harboring design philosophies, as they conceptualize models for the brand. Conversely, children play a role in masterful creativity. “We are a brand which believes in the potential of creative children as in fact, they have contributed in the process of designing certain vehicles. The Discovery Launch this year had children playing a role. They have quirky, innovative ideas that are novel” shared Tasneem. Jaguar’s new E-Pace vehicle epitomizes the energy of younger generations while its interior houses a paw print on the console, in addition to a cub alongside the Jaguar logo. Recent ‘In Motion’ technology digitally illuminates interior displays, innovating the company’s future.
