DREAMERS OF THE DAY

By Poornima Peiris

Dreamers of the day

Adorning ourselves in dawn

We ride into the night

Knowing of no tomorrow

Faintly aware

Of slippery pathways

With the wind wrapped around our fingers

And carelessness guiding our every move

Our young forms sipping midnight songs

In quarter note melodies

And attempting high pitch waltzes

Through dismantled thoughts,

while concrete borders

jinx our benedictions,

while  lacing maledictions upon our faces

Erasing our names written across ocean waves

Capturing phantoms from an early world

Lost in depth and didactic dimensions

Singing of endangered freedoms and guardian angels.
